Midsumma Festival - Walk With Pride

Midsumma Festival - Walk With Pride

Walk with Pride

Charles Meacham (NYC)
A photographic journey of pride events through 14 countries.
Walk with Pride is a photographic journey of 32 images documenting the fight for LGBTIQ equality from NYC photographer, Charles Meacham.
Meacham travelled to pride events in Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania, Russia, Croatia, Turkey, UK, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Israel, and offers a fascinating perspective into the lives of LGBTIQ people living in those countries.
The images on display are a powerful reminder of how far the LGBTIQ community has come and how far there is still to go in obtaining equality around the world. Each image gives insight into the lives of activists, pride participants and the specific issues faced by LGBTIQ people in their countries.
The Walk with Pride project was founded in 2009 by Charles Meacham and his wife Sarah Baxter to bring social awareness to LGBTIQ rights in countries around the world. It has been exhibited in 25 cities around the world, with its official opening at the EU Parliament in Strasbourg, France by the EU president of the time, Jerzy Buzek on International Day Against Homophobia in 2011.
The exhibition is taking place at the Incinerator Gallery, a former rubbish incinerator designed by the late Walter Burley Griffin. It is one of only six left in the country and the only one left in Victoria. It is a dedicated visual arts gallery offering a curated program of exhibitions of contemporary Australian art around issues on society, sustainability and the environment.
